Laundry Love: A Story of Hope and Dignity
Think about a time that you had to wait in line for something. You got there hours before opening to secure your spot, but when you arrive, the line is already wrapped around the block. Now imagine you were waiting in this line with a bag full of heavy laundry, waiting for a chance to wash your clothes.
An estimated 5.5 million households in the U.S. struggle to do their laundry due to America’s hygiene crisis.
Laundry Love is an organization that brightens lives through love, dignity, and detergent. For the past 20 years, Laundry Love has met with volunteers and friends of the community to wash the clothes and bedding of low/no-income families and person(s) across the US. Laundry Love’s approach to hygiene insecurity as a human care initiative creates meaningful moments of connection shared that go beyond clean clothes and creates real community.
Laundry Love shared that they had reached out to several laundry detergent companies looking to start a partnership, and although many had empathy for their mission and story, they never connected on a level of partnership.
Our partnership with Laundry Love is for people and the planet. We are on a mission together to provide clean clothes, with low waste, and human connection by supplying regular donations of our Laundry Detergent Eco Sheets to their locations all over the country.
Laundry Love was founded in 2003 as a neighboring movement to help those in our communities all over the U.S. struggling financially, making it difficult for them to do their laundry. The organization partners with local laundromats and volunteers all over the nation to help wash clothes and bedding for those in need providing them with love, dignity, and detergent.
“I was very moved by the understanding that it’s not just laundry support that Laundry Love provides, even though that is a huge support and a great percentage of what is done, but it is a beautiful connection human-to-human in a very vulnerable and meaningful way. Laundry Love cares about the person and is not focused on their situation.”
-Ginger, VP of Customer Delight at Earth Breeze
So many people affected by hygiene insecurity have to make the difficult decision between food or hygiene, health care or washing your clothes, paying the bills or cleaning bedding, school supplies or clean and fresh laundry. Because of the loving kindness shared by the Laundry Love team, over 1.5 million people across the country have found support and don’t have to worry about clean clothes.
Thanks to the support of our community of Eco Heroes that choose to wash their laundry with Earth Breeze, our Buy One, Give Ten program has been able to donate 838,648 loads of Laundry Detergent Eco Sheets to help support Laundry Love’s incredible mission.
“If I had clean clothes, people would treat me like a human being.”
